Here it is, then. MLS’ newest accomplishment, BBVA Compass Stadium, home of the Houston Dynamo, opened this past weekend.
New Fan Organization in Houston
Great to see Houston fans taking strides forward to unite independently:
The Houston Dynamo are preparing to enter a new era with the opening of BBVA Compass Stadium on May 12. As the event approaches, a new fan organization, Walker End Houston, is attempting to do the same in the stands.
The association was created to bridge the gap between supporters groups and fans that Chris Smink, a member of the organization’s executive council, called “independents” to create a fan base that acts under a unified banner to support the club.
“In the past, there’s been a barrier between the supporters groups and the independent fans,” Smink told MLSsoccer.com at the club’s training session at BBVA on Saturday. “There was, ‘There’s us here and we’re proud of our identity.’ and then there’s independent fans that say, ‘Why don’t they do what we do?’
“Walker End Houston is an association for all fans,” Smink continued. “It’s supporters groups and independent fans as well. It’s a community that involves everyone. The message is, if you’re a Dynamo fan, you are a part of this community and we want you to participate.”
The Houston Dynamo’s new third kit; according to club president Chris Canetti, the deeper set orange pays homage both to the club’s traditional colors and those of a pro soccer predecessor in the city, the Houston Hurricane.

This shot posted just now by the Houston Dynamo of the installation of greenery at the brand spankin’ new and very fine-looking BBVA Compass Stadium illustrates a part of that future very nicely.

The Houston Dynamo just announced that their opening game at the new BBVA Compass Stadium against DC United on May 12th has sold-out. It’s the first time in club history a game has sold-out without a public ticket sale taking place (tickets were sold to season ticket holders.
