Christine Brennan from USA Today discusses the Olympic Qualifying tournament on NPR.

She talks about how the tournament is highlighting the disparity between women’s programs and how it might encourage developing programs to actually develop their programs.  She says it outright: “Frankly, their national federations just don’t care about women’s soccer.”  Preach.

Also some discussion about how interest in a few USWNT players peaked after the WWC, but WPS is still struggling.  Old news for us, but nice to hear on a national news program.

Estadio La Peineta, Atlético Madrid, Spain - expected to be the team’s new home in 20125. Note the conversion plans shown in the video for the stadium to act as a track and field venue for the 2020 Olympic Games that Madrid is bidding to host, something of a sop that probably won’t ever be realized. The capacity will be 67,500 for the football club, in a stadium much further from Atlético’s current home in the heart of Madrid.
